Seagram's Building Plaza Renovation
Seagrams Building Plaza Renovation
"Mies' blankie"
Absurdity as a design tool...
Project Type: Academic, Urban, Cultural // Studio Critic: Jonathon Lott // Year: 2012
An architectural exploration of how Plaza at Mies van der Rohe's Seagrams Building can serve as an urban blanket that unleashes the current plaza's grid, to physically and programmatically connect the corner conditions of the Park Avenue site. This super plaza simultaneously creates an urban condition that is an isolated landscape (above), and a nexus of infrastructure and activity (below). As a revitalized icon in the city, apertures of added program (sauna, subway station, sun/moon window, gallery) serve as destinations or navigation.
